When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. But what do you do when life (or more accurately, overzealous grocery shopping) gives you dozens of leftover strawberries? Well, you still make a tasty beverage, but this time, you spike it.

With a bottle of wine.

And some triple sec.

And tequila.

You make Strawberry Sangarita, is what you do.

Is “Sangarita” a real thing? Today it is, because Fridays are full of possibilities. And most importantly, this Friday is full of a homemade fusion of margaritas and sangria to help us dive into the weekend.

Just let me show you how.

This recipe includes all of the ingredients you need for strawberry margaritas: pureed fresh strawberries, tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and a little agave nectar or simple syrup for a touch of extra sweetness. But despite the fact that it’s tempting to just down that concoction as-is, we go a step further and turn it into a picture — wait no, pitcher –– perfect drink by adding in a generous amount of wine and fresh fruit slices.

I chose to use rosé wine in my Strawberry Sangarita, as it typically boasts bright berry and citrus-centered flavors. Rosé is great for mixing in cocktails in general because it’s inexpensive (so you don’t have to feel bad about altering it) and gorgeous in a glass. When combining the pink wine to the vibrant strawberry puree, we wind up with a beautifully colored cocktail.

After mixing in the wine, I add in some sliced strawberries, lime wheels, and orange wheels to soak in the sangria and give it even more flavor while it sits for a couple of hours. And then, once the sangria has marinated, it’s finally time to drink.

It takes just one sip to realize that Strawberry Sangarita is going to be your go-to social cocktail for the year. I’m personally planning to sip it all spring and serve it up all summer… so I guess the party’s at my house, guys. After all, Strawberry Sangarita + sunshine + a grill = my idea of a good time.

Let’s be real, Strawberry Sangarita in any scenario is my idea of a good time.

I like to serve mine with ice, in glasses with salted rims and a few wedges of lime and orange on top. If you decide to salt the rims, too, just make sure to knock the salt off of the inside of the glass and shake it out before pouring, so that the salt doesn’t wind up falling into your drink and make your sangria taste like the ocean. Don’t you hate it when an otherwise delicious margarita is ruined that way?

And if you don’t want to salt the rims at all, that’s fine too. You can really just pour it into glasses and enjoy if you’d prefer. It’s your drink and your weekend, so do it your way.
